European Union energy ministers agreed on Monday to cap the price of natural gas at 180 euros ($190) per megawatt-hour, the bloc’s Czech presidency announced.
Before the start of a press conference for ministers in Brussels, the spokesman for the current presidency of the Union, Dmitry Sernikov, wrote in a tweet, saying: “Deal,” referring to the ministers’ agreement on a ceiling for gas prices.
Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Picetto, in a tweet, described the deal as “a victory for Italian and European citizens seeking energy security.”
