Colombian aviation officials said in a statement that the plane crashed after taking off from Olaya Herrera airport.
The officials added that the victims are 6 passengers and two crew members, while it is not yet clear if there are more than 8 people on board.

In turn, the mayor of Medellin, Daniel Quintero, said in a statement that the plane had an “engine failure” during takeoff.
Quintero explained that the accident destroyed 7 homes and damaged 6 other buildings.
