Colombian President Gustavo Petro has announced that a preliminary agreement has been reached in peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN) rebels.
Petro said in a press statement that the initial agreement came one week after the start of negotiations between the government and the rebels of the National Liberation Army.
For his part, the leader of the National Liberation Army, Antonio Garcia, said in a tweet on Twitter, “Only changes in the country’s reality will lead us to peace.”
On November 22, the two sides resumed peace talks, which have been stalled since 2019, in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
