The Czech Republic announced that it had seized 8,800 irregular migrants, most of them from Syria, at the border with Slovakia during the last two months.
In a press statement, on Sunday, the security director of the South Moravia Region, Leos Tarzel, indicated that operations to combat irregular migration will continue.
And the Czech authorities launched strict control operations last September on the border with Slovakia, despite the latter’s opposition.
Tarzel said that 150 policemen and 320 soldiers are participating in the operations, which have resulted in the arrest of 8,800 immigrants, most of them from Syria, to date.

He stressed that the operations will continue until December 12, and will be reviewed according to the conditions at the border.
