The Russian army announced today that it has completed its retreat from the Ukrainian Kherson region, BTA reported, citing information from international agencies.
“At 5 a.m. Moscow time (2 a.m. GMT), the redeployment of units of Russian soldiers to the left bank of the Dnieper River was completed,” the Russian Ministry of Defense announced. From there they clarified that they did not suffer any losses and not a single unit of military equipment was abandoned.
Kherson is one of the largest cities in southern Ukraine, which fell under Russian control in the first weeks of the war. Last month, Kherson region was one of four regions annexed by Moscow after the referendums.
The Kremlin stressed that the retreat was in no way a failure for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow continues to consider Kherson Oblast part of Russia.

Shortly before the Russian statement, the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation in Kherson region as “difficult” and said that Russia had shelled some of the villages and towns that Ukrainian forces had retaken in recent weeks during their counteroffensive in Kherson region.
