German Justice Minister Marco Bushmann said on Tuesday that Russian attacks on Ukraine’s electricity and heating infrastructure amounted to “war crimes”.

Bushmann told reporters after a meeting of G7 justice ministers in Berlin that Russia was trying to use winter as a “weapon of war” against Ukrainians.

He added, “We all agree that heinous war crimes are being committed in Ukraine, and the international community condemns in the strongest possible terms this war and the way it is being conducted.”

Bushman accused Russia of “deliberately and systematically” attacking civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, destroying heating and electricity systems, and leaving people desperate in freezing temperatures.
