Germany stops the deportation of Iranians due to the continuing protests in their country

On Monday, Germany suspended the deportation of Iranians to their country “until further notice, due to the deteriorating security situation and the violent suppression of anti-government protests”.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Hermann said Germany’s top federal and regional security officials were “agree” not to deport Iranians back home for the time being.

This came in exclusive statements made by Hermann to the German News Agency (dpa) before presiding over a regular conference of senior security officials in Germany, which begins next Wednesday.

Hermann explained that security officials in Germany “agree that in principle there should be no deportations until further notice.”

“Only in the case of dangerous criminals and extremists will the authorities consider whether deportation is still possible,” he added.

Since last September 16, protests have continued across Iran following the death of the 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, 3 days after she was arrested by the “moral police” concerned with monitoring women’s dress code.

The incident sparked widespread popular anger in the political and media circles in Iran, amid conflicting accounts of the causes of death.

On November 22, the Iranian Human Rights Organization (based in Norway), announced in a statement that 416 people had been killed in the demonstrations taking place in the country.
