In a ceremony attended by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, the Ukrainian capital witnessed, on Monday, the lighting of the Christmas tree with the help of power generators.
Many Ukrainians came to Sofia Square in central Kyiv to see the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

In statements he made to reporters, Klitschko said that New Year’s celebrations are limited in Ukraine this year to limited and small events, due to the continued Russian attacks on his country.
He added that many energy facilities in Kyiv are suffering from problems and crises due to being targeted by the Russian marches.
On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by international rejection and economic sanctions on Moscow, which requires Kyiv to abandon plans to join military entities to end its operation, which the latter considers an “interference” in its sovereignty.
