A negative tie overshadowed the final result of the Uruguay and South Korea confrontation, Thursday, at the “Education City” stadium, in the opening match of Group H of the “Qatar 2022” World Cup.
In the first half, the match was characterized by an advantage in movement and possession in favor of the Korean team, which relied on short balls in an attempt to penetrate Uruguay’s defenses without real danger.
On the other hand, the “celeste” followed the method of playing preparation from behind and sending long balls to the opponent’s areas, which paved the way for the formation of a great threat in the Korean areas with attempts from Frederico Valverde and Darwin Nunez.
The most prominent opportunity was represented by the header of veteran defender Diego Godin, who rose to the ball from a corner kick carried out by Valverde, and hit it with a powerful response, the right post of the South Korean goal.

The Korean “Shimson” started the second half, attacking through the movements of Heung-min Son and Huang Ui-ju, which were met by a tight defense led by veterans Godin and Martin Caceres.
Nunez tried to surprise the Korean goal with a powerful long shot that passed by the left post, followed by substitute Edinson Cavani with a header that never worried goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu, before Valverde hit a spherical shell that was hit by the right post again.
The Korean response came in the same way through Son, who shot, but his ball went past the goal, so the minutes passed without anything new, and the match ended without the nets of both sides being shaken.
With this, each team won a point before the second confrontation, which will bring together Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, with Ghana, who are coming to the World Cup in Qatar, with a strong, star-studded squad.
