The Ecuadorean national team star, Byron Castillo, suffered a severe injury during the friendly match he played against Iraq, on Saturday, at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital, Madrid, and had to leave the field in severe pain.
And the Colombian newspaper, “La Tercera”, revealed that Castillo may miss the first match in the 2022 World Cup, which is the opening match against the Qatari team after about 7 days, and this came in light of the severity of the injury he suffered.
The Iraqi player, who bears the colors of the Swedish club Gothenburg, Ali Qassem, intervened in a strong way on Byron at the 37th minute, and the berries of his foot in a violent manner made him scream before the medical staff intervened to rescue him. While the coach, Alvaro Gustavo, decided to change him quickly, since he could not stand smoothly.
Byron Castillo became famous for the issue of changing citizenship, as the Chilean Football Association filed a complaint against him with FIFA, claiming that he is a Colombian citizen and does not have the right to represent the Ecuadorian national team.

After investigations launched last April, and appeals filed by the Chilean federation on more than one occasion, FIFA rejected the appeal and allowed the player to participate in the international competition, which prompted the Ecuador coach to summon him before he was injured in the Iraq match.
