The Ministry of Prisoners and Released Palestinians in the Gaza Strip said, on Saturday, that Israel “is violating international law by detaining and torturing children.”
This came in a statement, a copy of which was received by the Anadolu Agency, issued by the ministry (run by Hamas) on the eve of International Children’s Day, corresponding to November 20 of each year.
The ministry added, “The Israeli occupation violates the most basic international laws and norms by detaining Palestinian children, subjecting them to torture, abuse, unfair trials, and depriving them of their basic rights.”
And she added, “Children are subjected to all forms of torture and psychological and physical abuse, and organized crimes are committed against them.”

According to the ministry, Israel “has arrested approximately 50,000 Palestinian children since 1967.”
The ministry called on international institutions to “exercise all efforts to stop this tragic picture of the Palestinian child, and to ensure that he enjoys a dignified and reassuring life, like the rest of the world’s children.”
Since the beginning of this year 2022, the Palestinian Prisoners Club (non-governmental) said in a statement, on Saturday, that “the Israeli army has arrested about 750 children, and 160 under the age of 18 are still in detention.”
He pointed out that there were injured children among the detainees, who “were subjected to gunfire before and during their arrest.”
Since 1990, Universal Children’s Day has been celebrated as the anniversary of the date the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) and the related Convention (1989).
