On Friday, the United Nations called for extending the mechanism for delivering humanitarian aid to Syria through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.
This was stated by the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, in response to a question by the Anatolian correspondent, regarding the cross-border aid delivery program to Syria, whose term expires on January 10, 2023.
Dujarric pointed out that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will brief the UN Security Council on humanitarian needs before taking a decision on extending the mechanism, no later than December 10.
He stressed the steadfastness of the United Nations position on the need to extend the mechanism for delivering aid across the border to Syria, noting that nothing can replace that aid.

On July 12, the Security Council adopted a resolution extending the humanitarian aid mechanism to Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing on the border with Turkey, for a period of 6 months.
The Security Council had failed to adopt a joint Norwegian-Irish draft resolution calling for the extension of the UN mandate for a full year due to Russia’s veto power to prevent its issuance.
