The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday called for the rescue of a group of Rohingya refugees stranded on a ship in the Andaman Sea after leaving Myanmar.
A statement issued by the UNHCR office in Geneva indicated that the ship was carrying about 200 refugees in the Andaman Sea on December 1.
The statement added that the ship’s engine failed after sailing, and the ship has been drifting due to waves since then.
The statement indicated that there are women and children among the ship’s passengers, and that they go days without access to food.
