A Spanish court acquits Neymar and other defendants in a corruption case

A Barcelona court stated, in a statement, that the judges also decided to acquit the nine defendants whose names were included for trial in this case.

In addition to Neymar, the list of defendants included both his parents and their company, “N&N”, which manages the affairs of the Brazilian player, in addition to FC Barcelona, its former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, and Santos and its former president, Odilio Rodriguez Filho.

Neymar’s trial began in Barcelona in mid-October, after the Spanish prosecutor dropped the fraud charges against him.

Prosecutors had demanded Neymar’s imprisonment for two years as well as a fine of 10 million euros in the case brought by the Brazilian “DIS” investment company in 2015, which alleged that it had been defrauded in the player’s transfer between Santos and Barcelona in 2013.

The Brazilian company owned 40 percent of Neymar’s sports rights when he was at Santos.

The company claims that there was collusion between Neymar, Barcelona and the Brazilian club to hide the real cost of his transfer to the club, and thus was subjected to financial fraud.
