Portugal completed the qualifying teams for the quarter-finals of the World Cup Qatar 2022, on Tuesday, by defeating its Swiss opponent, by six goals to one, in the “Lusail” stadium, at the end of the round of 16 competitions.
The Portuguese national team presented its best matches since the start of the tournament, imposing its absolute control that enabled it to open the scoring at the 18th minute with the foot of Gonzalo Santos, who received a ball from Joao Felix and then hit it hard in the impossible corner against goalkeeper Jan Sumer.
The Portuguese’s desire to visit the Swiss net resulted in a second goal from a corner kick carried out by Bruno Fernandez. Veteran defender Pepe flew to her and put the ball into the goal at the 33rd minute.
In the second half, the Swiss defense collapsed on the impact of the repeated Portuguese attacks, and the shock of the third goal came through Santos in the 51st minute, followed by Rafael Guerrero with a beautiful fourth goal with an unanswerable shot after only 4 minutes.

The Swiss national team was able to reduce the difference in the 58th minute through defender Manuel Akanji, but Santos appeared again and restored things to what they were with a third goal for him and a fifth for Portugal, which he signed at the 67th minute.
And with the advent of the second minute of stoppage time, substitute Rafael Leao concluded the sextet with a beautiful goal, making Portugal the first team to score 6 goals in the round of 16 in the history of the tournament.
Portugal will meet Morocco in the quarter-finals, after the latter’s victory over Spain on penalties, next Saturday, December 10th.
